Our History
Geelong Lutheran College is proud of its history.
Our school began in 1962 with the opening of the St John’s Newtown campus, then known as St John’s Lutheran Primary School. The St John’s Lutheran Kindergarten was then founded the following year in 1963 on the same site.

In 2009, the campus at Armstrong Creek opened, with the first Geelong Lutheran College Year 12 graduates completing their schooling in 2014. In 2019, both schools came under the Geelong Lutheran College banner: GLC St John’s Newtown and GLC Armstrong Creek, with the schools formally becoming one College with two campuses in 2023.

Both campuses are steeped in all that Lutheran schools offer and are known for delivering a caring, Christ-centred learning environment that respects and seeks to grow each unique child.
It is a blessing that we can offer families access to a Kinder to Year 6 learning experience at GLC St John’s Newtown, or a Prep to Year 12 experience at GLC Armstrong Creek. The connection between the two campuses is strong and each year we welcome our St John’s Newtown students as they continue their school life with us in Year 7 at our Armstrong Creek campus.
As a school of the Lutheran Church of Australia, we value the theological tenets that guide and inform what we do. We share God’s Word with our community through Christian Studies, weekly Chapel services and Devotions which are unique aspects of Geelong Lutheran College.
