At GLC St John's Newtown our entire Year 6 cohort enjoy the responsibility of being a leader.
Our Year 6 students have opportunities to demonstrate this leadership through school tours, greeting our students and families, presenting and participating in whole school events, planning and preparing for lunch time clubs, peer mediation at play times and much more.
We also have particular roles that are carried out by our Year 6 Captains. Our captaincy team includes Faith, French, STEM, Arts, House, School and Library Captains. These captains are role models for the school community and encourage the younger students to strive for excellence and to seek out the opportunities to serve others.
In Focus: Library Captains
The Library Captains have a passion for the library space and are very happy to share their knowledge about books and to assist in finding the perfect book for their peers. They have weekly duties in the library returning and borrowing books, organising the shelves ready for students to explore, and delivering books to classrooms for teachers.
We have regular recess meetings to practise any school presentations for Assembly and stories that they will share with the prep classes each week. They also work closely with the French Captains when they present a French/English story together.
The lunchtime experience in library includes a variety of games, puzzles, Lego, colouring and reading. Our Captains are of service to all our students and teachers who visit and attend to each of their requests with kindness and support.
