The latest facility and infrastructure additions at the GLC Armstrong Creek Campus were officially opened on Monday 17 March by Libby Coker MP, Member for Corangamite and Sue Ellis, GLC Executive Principal.
The Road / Bus Parking and Secondary Basketball Courts project included two pieces of new infrastructure to support the College’s growing student population:
A new road was built on the eastern boundary of the campus, featuring a bus turnaround and five new parking bays for the College’s bus fleet. This has allowed the relocation of five buses from the front carpark, providing safer student access to the campus and 18 new staff carparks in space the buses were previously located.
The number of outdoor courts has been doubled, with two new Basketball and Netball Courts constructed. Located next to Ngarrwa, the Year 11 & 12 Centre completed last year, the two new courts will be used by Secondary students during Physical Education lessons and during recess and lunch breaks.
Ms Coker toured both sites with Ms Ellis, College Captains Lucille and Casey, College Board members, senior GLC staff and representatives from the construction team, Smith & Tracey, Civil Force and spiire, before unveiling a plaque on the outdoor courts.
The $2.6 million project is jointly funded by the GLC local community and the Australian Government, with $1.4 million funding from the Department of Education’s Capital Grants Program for Non-Government Schools.
Quotes attributable to Sue Ellis, GLC Executive Principal:
“Like our surrounding area, our student numbers are increasing ever year and brings the need for additional infrastructure and facilities at Geelong Lutheran College.
“The new bus road and parking area provides the GLC Armstrong Creek Campus with a purpose-built facility, reducing congestion in our staff carpark, freeing up parking space for staff and visitors, and most importantly, making it safer and easier for the 500 students who catch a GLC bus on a full- or part-time basis.
“The two new basketball and netball courts have doubled the number of outdoor courts at the campus and has enabled our Primary and Secondary students to each have courts for their exclusive use.
“Thank you to Libby Coker MP and the Australian Government for their $1.4 million contribution towards this project. Our College community was grateful to partner with the Government to deliver these new facilities.”
Quotes attributable to Libby Coker MP, Member for Corangamite:
"At Geelong Lutheran College, the teachers, staff, and students have cultivated a positive and close-knit community, and these new facilities will further support and improve the educational prospects for local students.
"Our Government is dedicated to providing students with the resources they need to thrive, helping them unlock their potential and acquire the skills essential for pursuing higher education or securing employment."
