GLC has a long-standing connection with Australian Lutheran World Services (ALWS), which is the overseas aid and development agency of the Lutheran Church of Australia.
Recently, Celia from ALWS came to speak with St John's and Armstrong Creek Primary students about caring for God’s world. God asks us to care for our world and his people. The students talked with Celia about ways to make better choices for our world and how to take care of others.
They heard stories from Amil in Indonesia who is 13. She has limited food, hygiene, health care and safe drinking water. We heard how ALWS has helped Amil, and other children like her, by going into countries to teach others how to grow food and provide skills so that they can have a better life.
It was a wonderful learning opportunity for the students, which was reflected in their feedback following the sessions:
It was quite good, I enjoyed playing the game
It makes me feel more grateful for what I have
The session gave me great ideas for what I can do to help God’s world.
