In 2021 we are very excited to be launching our Year 3 Strings Program. This program will be a welcome addition to our music department and forge the beginnings of an orchestral program at GLC. For one semester, students will be involved in a violin class. They will be provided with a violin to take home and practice in order to hone their skills. The learning of the violin will heighten students’ leadership and cooperative skills. They will build their confidence and resilience and heighten their ability to focus. Students will also develop their aural ability and gain a practical understanding of music notation. The violin provides students with a very kinesthetic experience and draws together many thinking skills including social and emotional skills, critical and creative thinking and problem solving. In addition, it’s fun. Students will be energised with the sound of making music together, playing along to backing tracks and building friendships. We can’t wait to hear the results of these budding violinists in 2021. Grace and Ryoma welcomed the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the new instruments.
